STIHL

Digital and analog elements hand in hand:
a holistic brand experience for STIHL

STIHL's vision was to create a groundbreaking, immersive experience with the STIHL brand world, showcasing the brand's technological innovation and DNA. The goal was not only to immerse visitors in the history and values of STIHL, but also to provide them with the opportunity to experience and interactively explore cutting-edge technologies themselves. The challenge was to seamlessly integrate digital technology with physical exhibits to ensure a consistent and smooth user experience. From XXL screens to a 270-degree LED wall to virtual reality stations, each component had to be individually designed and developed to make the STIHL brand tangible in a completely new way.

A Customized CMS
The key to perfection

Why is a custom CMS essential for such a museum project?

Large projects like the STIHL brand world require perfection. Even the smallest errors in the software can significantly affect the visitor experience. Subsequent adjustments are often complex and risk disrupting the immersive experience of the visitors. Software and hardware must be perfectly coordinated to create a seamless result.

We have faced this challenge and relied on advanced technologies in our planning.

From interactive table to globe.
our technological masterpieces

In collaboration with Dreiform and Kraftwerk, we took over the frontend development of the interactive screens for the STIHL brand world. Our contribution included the development of a custom CMS based on Twill for flexible management of screen contents and the setup of a communication server that coordinated the interaction between screens, apps, and building technology. This enabled centralized control of functions such as lighting control, presentation switching, and volume adjustment. For the user interface, we developed a Gatsby React frontend app. Some of the key features included:

Challenge: Memory Leaks
how we optimized memory-intensive pages

One of the biggest challenges in this project, which involved several hundred development hours, was to avoid memory leaks on memory-intensive pages that continuously display the same content. Particularly affected were the globe and the round table, as they contained large objects such as videos and images.

These problems required developers to rethink, implement active garbage collection, and optimize assets. It was a learning process for all involved parties, leading not only to exceptional results but also to the optimization of existing workflows and processes. Through close collaboration among our experts in web development, UI/UX design, and digital communications, we were able to successfully implement the project to the fullest satisfaction of STIHL.

Our approach

Strategy Services

01

Interactive round table

With a diameter of 1.50 m, the interactive table allows four people to work simultaneously, as well as touchscreen interactions without any response delays.

02

Double-sided table

Operation from two sides is possible; with cards that adapt to both perspectives; each card contains mini-websites.

03

Chainsaw competition statistics

Interactive screen displaying statistics; users can start chainsaws and cut wood.

04

Rotating globe

A dynamically rotatable globe (via touch) displaying all STIHL locations worldwide, combined with an animated starry sky in the background.

05

Audio guide synchronization

Synchronized audio track, adjusted to the current video position; available in multiple languages.

An interactive journey
through technology and innovation

After countless hours of work and successful completion of the complex technical requirements, as well as coordinating many stakeholders, the exhibition today is an impressive presentation of the STIHL product range and technology. Visitors experience an interactive and informative experience that brings the STIHL brand to life in all its facets.
